About Camey KoKo
I am a Cameroon African Grey Parrot
Have you heard of my kind? We are famous for being earth's smartest birds. In fact, I am
smarter than any dog, and much smarter than those silly cats on the back porch here at the
garden that you make such a fuss over, in my presence. Just so you know, porpoises are
my intellectual equals. I will probably not talk to you and will just observe you observing me. I
am a little shy around strangers. I am a quick learner, so be careful what you say to me; I
will repeat it to Nancy in the morning. I sing "Ave Maria" and "Old Macdonald had a farm". I
know what pigs and ducks and kittens say and horses too. I am polite with my "hi's" and
"hello's". I say "what's up?", "well!", "wow!", "really!", "ok!", "smooch", "kiss" and I say
"roomservice". I know and say my own name, "Camey Koko", and "Nancy" and "Elliott". I say
"say something bird" which is what a lot of you say to me, and also "do you talk?"
My food bowls contain everything humans eat except chocolate and avocado (which are
very poisonous to me) and of course things too sugary, salty or spicy. I am not a picky eater
and I relish all the food I am given. Even though I may not talk to you, thank you for visiting
me and keeping me entertained. After all I am caged and require a lot of stimulation to
remain in the best physical and psychological health. By stimulation I mean a diverse
assortment of different fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, pastas and all sorts of other
foods including surprises, so I do not to get bored. My food bowls need careful washing and
drying twice daily, not to mention a variety of ever changing colorful, safe toys to play with
and chew on, like pieces of wood, rope, leather thongs, etc. to keep me entertained.
Daily hygene is important and time consuming. Nancy needs help and would like to hire a
part time helper so she can spend more time with me and the other birds. Oh, yes, and then
I need to mention the once a year "healthy bird" medical check up with doctor Doug Nader
my Avian Veterinarian. So you see, having me or for that matter any other parrot around is
rather complicated, expensive, and time consuming. I love my life here in the garden.
Please donate and help with my upkeep so the garden can continue to be my permenent
home.
Thank you. Camey Koko
